The Kooks, Hull City Hall, Hull 4th Oct 2011

After a very busy festival season, gig season has finally started. First show the Kooks at Hull City Hall reminded me of the difficulties of shooting indoors;

  • Low lighting
  • Narrow pits
  • High stages
  • Strobe lighting

Support bands for the night where Lonsdale Boys Club & Tribes, unfortunately the lighting guy decided to flood the stage with green from the back of the stage & red lighting to the front making photography near impossible & fruitless, also the front of stage had a walk way added, meaning only head shots of the lead singer where possible from the narrow pit, this did not make me confident for the main act.

Thank fully Luke Pritchard is a very experienced front man, coming out armed with guitar,

the lighting was drastically changed to low background lighting & lovely white lighting from the front with just a hint of red. For the second song Luke removed his guitar & became the classic front man, using the added walkway to entice the crowd into singing long with him.

By the end of the third song Luke was reaching out to his fans & I nailed this final shot with the Pentax k-5 with the Pentax DA* 50-135mm lens

V Festival Chelmsford 2010

Wow what a great weekend V Festival was, from opening act Paloma Faith to ending on a high with Kasabian. A truly great weekend. The GX20 & Pentax DA* 50-135mm 2.8 with their weatherproofing certainly helped with the amount of fluids thrown around during The Courteeners & kasabians set, along with the rain on Sunday, which helped get some great crowd shots.
